New Year With A Toddler
Toddler Activities Inspired by the new year.
Hi mama,
It’s official, the new year is upon us! A time when I check all the astrological predictions, grab my green underwear for good luck, and jot down one resolution. Yes, just one, because let’s be real, I’m a toddler mom, and that’s all I’ll have time for. Why waste time on a long list? 😅
Speaking of keeping it honest, there’s no big New Year’s bash happening here. We’ll be cozy at home, maybe clinking glasses with a little prosecco at midnight if we even make it that far (spoiler: probably not). But prosecco mimosas in the morning? Now that’s a plan. 🍊🥂
Honestly, I’d much rather snuggle up in my fluffy pajamas with my favorite person than stress over the perfect New Year’s dress and intricate plans. This year, I’m focused on starting things off the way I want to end them: at peace.
All this to say… you do you, mama. Whether you’re celebrating big or keeping it chill, you deserve a New Year’s that feels right for you and your family.
And if you’re looking for some low-key ways to celebrate with your little one, I’ve got you covered with these simple, toddler-approved ideas:
In joyful motherhood,
Liz
Toddler New Year Activities
Noon Year’s Eve Dance Party
Celebrate at noon instead of midnight with your toddler’s favorite tunes. Check your local spots to see if any are hosting noon parties for little ones. We’ll be having a toddler dance party with Emi to her favorite songs (cue: Baby Shark).
DIY "Countdown Clock" Craft
Make a paper plate clock and let your toddler decorate it with stickers. Move the hands together as you count down to your toddler-friendly “midnight.” This is a great time to introduce the concept of time and maybe even time zones for older kids.
Balloon Drop Party
Fill a net or a large sheet with balloons and release them at your chosen countdown time. Your little one will love the excitement of chasing them around!
New Year Traditions
You can use this time to explore New Year’s traditions from around the world and celebrate your own family’s unique customs. When I was little, my favorite tradition was walking around the block with my mom, each carrying a suitcase, as a fun way to invite travel into the new year.
Toddler Parade
Grab pots, pans, and spoons for a mini parade around the house. Let them march and make some joyful noise!
Fireworks Painting
Use toilet paper rolls cut into strips to stamp colorful “fireworks” onto paper. It’s a creative way to ring in the new year!
New Year’s Resolutions for Toddlers
Set simple resolutions together, like trying a new fruit or learning a song. It’s a sweet tradition to start young.
January Activity Challenge
Our 30-Day Cozy Indoor Activity Challenge was such a hit that we’re kicking off another one for January! This time, I asked our Facebook group what the theme should be, and the answer was Creative Play. 🎉
I’ll be sharing the official calendar this week inside the group, so be sure to grab it there and follow along.
